In the first quarter of 2025, the export of abrasives and grinding tools industry was affected by the dual effects of the Spring Festival holiday and the decline in overseas market demand, resulting in a decrease in both quantity and price.

 

According to customs data, the total export volume of four main products, including brown corundum, other artificial corundum, silicon carbide, and grinding tools, was 352900 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.52% and a month on month decrease of 17.33%; The export volume of brown corundum was 111800 tons, a year-on-year increase of 21.35% and a month on month decrease of 12.98%; The export volume of other artificial corundum was 84200 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 18.05% and a month on month decrease of 18.68%; The export volume of silicon carbide was 69400 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 14.49% and a month on month decrease of 28.6%; The export volume of grinding tools was 87400 tons, an increase of 11.23% year-on-year and a decrease of 10.37% month on month.

 

In terms of export value, the total export value in the first quarter was 465.01 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 7.81% and a month on month decrease of 12.91%.

 

From the perspective of export situation, the export volume of industry products has fallen from the high level in the fourth quarter. This is due to the impact of February as the traditional off-season for the industry, as well as the accelerated stocking of overseas markets before Trump took office last year, resulting in a high pre value.

 

According to estimates, China's production of abrasive and grinding products accounts for 85-90% of the world's total, with 40% of the products being exported. It can be said that China is the most important exporter of abrasive and grinding products in the world. Therefore, under the premise of no significant changes in the global manufacturing pattern, the situation of exporting industry products to the outside world will not change. However, with the huge export volume, we do not have the right to speak, and the average export price of various products keeps decreasing. However, with the Trump administration starting a trade war, companies have generally reported a significant decrease in export orders in the second quarter. If there is no intention of further negotiations between China and the United States, the export of industry products to the United States will stagnate in May. Moreover, the United States is now adopting a policy of imposing high tariffs on other countries as long as they contain Chinese made ingredients, further reducing their willingness to purchase our products. It is expected that the export situation of the industry will face challenges in the second quarter. Although there is a crisis, there is no need to worry excessively. Based on the actual situation, the problem of hollowing out the domestic manufacturing industry in the United States cannot be solved overnight. From the perspective of the abrasive and grinding tool industry alone, if you want to purchase silicon carbide and corundum products, you must find China. The United States cannot find a substitute country that meets the demand in the short term.
