Diamond Segment For Core Drill Bit Blank

Diamond Segment For Core Drill Bit Blank

Huice supplies diamond segments designed for use in diamond concrete core bits. These segments are suitable for both laser welding and high-frequency welding. Featuring a high-concentration diamond formulation, they are capable of drilling through reinforced concrete—even when it contains high-hardness cement, a high density of steel rebar, or a large volume of hard aggregate. They offer excellent sharpness, a long service life, and a high price-to-performance ratio.

Diamond Segment for Core Drill Bit Blank

A bare diamond segment for retipping worn core bits, made in two size families from D36 up to D400. It cuts cured, green and reinforced concrete, brick, block, masonry and highly abrasive stone, and it is built to be welded onto your own barrel.

This is the segment on its own - not a finished bit. Tool makers and repair shops buy it to bring a worn core bit back into service, or to build their own.

What It Is For
Retipping

Bringing A Worn Core Bit Back Into Service

A core bit does not fail all at once. The barrel stays sound while the segments on its rim wear down to the steel. When that happens the bit is not finished - it needs new segments, and that is what this product is.

Designed specifically for retipping worn diamond core bits, these segments deliver exceptional cutting speed across a broad spectrum of construction materials - including cured, green and reinforced concrete, as well as brick, block, masonry and highly abrasive stone.

01

For tool makers

Buy the segment loose and build the bit yourself, on your own barrel, to your own segment count and pitch.

02

For repair shops

Replace a worn set on a modular bit and put it back into service instead of scrapping the barrel.

03

For large diameters

On a D400 barrel, retipping is the difference between a repair and a new bit. That is where the saving sits.

Technical Data

Two Size Families, One Table

The size is written in three parts: width × thickness × height, all in millimetres. Two families cover the range - the 16 series for smaller barrels, the 24 series for larger ones. Thickness is the part you choose, because it follows the wall thickness of your barrel and the concrete you are drilling.

Segment size
length Width Thickness options Height Typical use
16 16 mm 3.5 mm
3.7 mm
12 mm Smaller barrel diameters, standard wall thickness
24 24 mm 3.5 / 4.0 / 4.2 / 4.5 / 5.0 / 5.5 / 6.0 mm 12 mm Larger barrels, heavier wall, thicker section for reinforced work
All dimensions in millimetres, written width × thickness × height. Read across a row to get one complete segment: for example 16 × 3.5 × 12 mm.

Two Ways To Fix A Segment To A Barrel

A bare segment has to be joined to the steel barrel before it can cut anything. Two methods are in general use, and they are not interchangeable - the choice follows the duty the bit will see.

Laser welding

A high-power laser fuses the segment into the steel, giving a metallurgical bond that resists heat and shock. This is the standard for reinforced concrete and heavy-duty bits.

High-frequency brazing

Induction heating melts a silver-based filler between segment and steel. Lower cost, and it suits light-to-medium dry cutting on soft materials.

Huicetools runs laser welding on its own welding line for heavy concrete tools, and produces finished blades, core bits and grinding shoes under OEM for a number of international brands. If you are retipping in your own workshop, the segment is supplied ready to weld - no pre-treatment beyond cleaning the seat.

Manufacturing
Since 2006

Made On Our Own Line

Huicetools has manufactured diamond tools in Quanzhou since 2006. A segment goes through five steps on our line: batching, cold pressing, hot-press sintering under heat and pressure, demolding and trimming, and inspection before it is packed.

The step that decides how a segment performs is the bond recipe - the part most suppliers copy but few develop. Our engineers tune diamond concentration and the cobalt-copper-iron matrix against the concrete you are actually drilling, which is why the same standard size can be optimised for soft, medium or hard concrete.

Questions About Core Bit Segments

Which segment is best for reinforced concrete?

For reinforced concrete, choose a segment with high-grade tougher diamond grit, a medium-to-hard metal bond, a wider profile often built with protection teeth or a tapered/layered design, and laser welding to withstand the heat and shock from rebar. A plain green-concrete segment will glaze and wear out quickly on steel. We formulate dedicated reinforced-concrete segments that hold up against rebar while keeping cutting speed, and adjust the bond after reviewing your machine weight, feed pressure and local concrete hardness.

What bond for hard concrete?

For hard, dense concrete, use a softer-bond segment. Hard concrete abrades the matrix slowly, so a soft bond wears faster to expose fresh diamond and prevents glazing; a hard bond on hard concrete polishes over and stops cutting. Softer abrasive concrete, in turn, needs a harder bond to avoid premature wear. Send us your concrete description or a sample and we recommend soft, medium or hard bond rather than a default grade.

How long does a segment last cutting concrete?

Service life varies with concrete hardness, aggregate type, rebar content, cutting speed, feed pressure and wet or dry cooling. As a rough reference, a standard segment may cut tens to a few hundred linear metres before wearing out, and rebar contact shortens this substantially. Rather than promising a fixed metre count, we select the bond to maximise life on your material, and production consistency across batches means the wear you measure on the first segment repeats on the whole box.

Can a segment cut rebar?

Yes, a properly formulated reinforced-concrete segment can cut through rebar, but steel wears the bond faster than concrete and should not be the main cutting target. Prolonged steel contact raises heat, causes diamond loss and may break the segment. Use a dedicated rebar-grade segment, cut steadily instead of forcing, and apply water cooling when possible.

Can I replace the segment on a core drill bit?

It depends on the bit type. Modular, replaceable-segment core bits let you swap worn segments on the barrel to save cost on large diameters; integral one-piece brazed segments cannot be replaced individually and the whole bit is discarded when worn. Replacement requires removing the old segment, cleaning the seat, and brazing the new segment at the correct angle and pitch in a workshop. We manufacture both modular and integral core bits and can also supply loose custom segments to tool makers for their own assembly.
