Japan Has Developed The World's Largest Diamond Substrate

On the 31st, it was reported that Japanese precision component manufacturer Orbray has made a technological breakthrough and successfully developed the world's largest diamond substrate for electronic products, with a specification of 2 centimeters square. This innovative achievement provides new material solutions for cutting-edge fields such as power semiconductors and quantum computers.
In terms of crystal growth technology, Orbray adopts a self-developed "special sapphire substrate" deposition process and achieves large-scale preparation of diamond substrates with oblique cross-section (111) by improving the traditional step flow growth method.
The key to this technology lies in the use of a specific angle of substrate tilt design, which effectively alleviates the internal stress during the growth process of diamond crystals and overcomes the technical bottleneck that makes it difficult to scale up such substrates.

At present, Orbray is actively promoting technological upgrades and plans to expand the substrate size to a diameter specification of 2 inches (approximately 5 centimeters).
According to the research and development progress, the company expects to complete productization preparation before 2026, providing key foundational materials for the manufacturing of next-generation electronic devices
