There are many classification methods for diamond tools, including those based on the type of binder, usage, shape, structure, or manufacturing process, or a combination of both.
2.1 Divided by type of binder
According to the type of bonding agent, there are mainly resin bonded diamond tools, metal bonded diamond tools, ceramic bonded diamond tools, resin metal bonded diamond tools, metal ceramic bonded diamond tools, etc.
There are two development directions for resin metal bond diamond tools. One is to introduce a considerable amount of metal materials into the resin bond matrix, which can not only bond well with the resin material, enhance the physical and mechanical properties of the matrix, but also exert the thermal and electrical conductivity of the metal during grinding, greatly improving the grinding performance of the tool;
Another method is to first use special metals to firmly bond diamond particles into certain shaped segments, and then use resin to form a synthetic tool. Its advantage is that there is sufficient rigid material around the abrasive particles to control the grinding force, and the diamond is not easy to fall off. The resin matrix has good elasticity and can absorb the vibration energy during processing, thus improving the surface processing quality of the workpiece, enhancing the processing efficiency and service life of the tool.
Metal ceramic bond diamond tools refer to the introduction of a considerable amount of ceramic materials into a metal matrix to improve its performance, making it have both the impact resistance, good conductivity, and thermal conductivity of a metal matrix, as well as the brittleness, chip holding, and non stick characteristics of ceramic materials, greatly improving the grinding performance of diamond tools; Adding glass with special components to metal bond CBN tools can improve the wettability of the matrix to CBN grinding particles, significantly increasing the tool's lifespan and processing efficiency.
In addition, there are rubber bonded diamond tools abroad, which are used for processing glass and other materials with good results. There are relatively few products in this area domestically.
Since the 1950s, when diamond and CBN superhard abrasives were artificially synthesized, superhard material products(Diamond, CBN) have experienced rapid development. Staring from now on, our company(www.chinadiatools.com) will share some knowledge about diamond manufacturing processes and formulas with everyone.
