With the continuous iteration and development of technology, brazed diamond tools, due to their sharp characteristics and lower manufacturing costs, are being increasingly used in various industries.
More and more industries are beginning to use brazed diamond tools, and in some areas, brazed diamond tools are starting to replace and supersede sintered diamond tools and electroplated diamond tools.
Today I'm sharing some knowledge about brazed diamond tools. This is valuable industry-specific information that is well worth reading and learning for those working in the field.

1 Working Mechanism of Brazed Diamond Tools
The brazing materials for brazed diamond tools mostly use three types of alloys: Ni-Cr, Ag-Cu, and Cu-Sn. Among them, Ni-Cr-based alloy brazing materials have good wear resistance and high-temperature resistance, and can achieve excellent bonding strength after brazing, thus finding widespread application. At a certain temperature, the molten Ni-Cr alloy brazing material comes into contact with the diamond surface.
Due to the presence of many crystal defects on the diamond surface, carbon first dissolves into the brazing material and reacts with Cr in the brazing material to form chromium carbide Cr3C2. Then, Cr3C2 begins to grow with the diamond as the grain boundary, the liquid phase Cr gradually increases, and Cr3C2 continues to form Cr7C3 in the direction of the original diamond and brazing material. Finally, a gradient material of diamond-Cr3C2-Cr7C3-brazing material is formed at the interface between the diamond and the brazing material, achieving a metallurgical and chemical bond between the Ni-Cr alloy and the diamond.
2 The process principle of manufacturing brazed diamond tools:
The brazing diamond process principle involves achieving a chemical metallurgical bond at the interface of the diamond, binder, and metal matrix during high-temperature brazing. This results in high bonding strength, with the abrasive grains exposed to a height of 70% to 80%. Brazed tools are sharp, have large chip removal space, are less prone to clogging, and utilize the abrasive material more efficiently.
Compared with electroplated and sintered drill bits, brazed thin-walled drill bits offer a more stable drilling process, longer tool life, and significantly improved workpiece quality. The advantages are particularly evident under high-speed and high-feed conditions.
3 Characteristics of Brazed Diamond Thin-Walled Drill Bits
Brazed diamond thin-walled drill bits are a type of high-performance diamond tool manufactured using vacuum brazing technology. Research into developing a new generation of single-layer brazed diamond tools using brazing technology began in the late 1980s abroad.
They possess advantages such as high diamond protrusion, large chip removal space, and strong gripping force. Currently, superhard material tools generally utilize ordered arrangement and preferential orientation to maximize the inherent characteristics of the superhard materials.
4 Performance Requirements of Vacuum Brazing Furnaces
Vacuum brazing equipment is fundamental to the production of superhard abrasive brazed tools. The key technical performance requirements involve three main aspects: the vacuum equipment must have a fast pumping speed, a high ultimate vacuum level, and good temperature uniformity within the heating zone.
