Bonding agents are used to fix diamond abrasive particles onto the grinding tool substrate through a certain method, playing a role in holding the diamond abrasive. Common bonding agents include bronze bonding agents, resin bonding agents, ceramic bonding agents, and electroplating bonding agents.
Resin bonding agent (S):
high grinding efficiency, high surface finish, good self sharpening, easy to correct, but weak bonding force, not suitable for high load grinding. At the same time, it has poor wear resistance and high consumption. Mainly used for precision grinding, semi precision grinding, cutting, polishing, and high hardness metal materials and quenched parts for inner (outer) circle and flat machining.
Metal bonding agent (Q):
mainly refers to bronze bonding agent (QT). It has strong adhesion, good wear resistance, low wear, and can withstand large loads for grinding, but its self sharpening is poor, it is prone to clogging and heating, difficult to correct, and the cutting efficiency is not as good as resin binders. The principal is responsible for rough grinding, semi precision grinding of hard alloy workpieces and cutting tools, as well as grinding and cutting of hard and brittle materials such as optical glass, gemstones, semiconductors, and stone.
Vitrified bonding agent:
Strong wear resistance, less prone to clogging and heating during grinding, high cutting efficiency, but the grinding tool wears out quickly and is difficult to manufacture, so it is used less.
Electroplating binder;
It is a type of metal bonding agent that firmly adheres diamond abrasive particles to a metal substrate using electroplating, electrophoresis, or chemical plating methods. It is mainly nickel plated, but also copper plated, chromium plated, iron plated, and can also be coated with composite metals such as nickel chromium. It can be plated with one layer or multiple layers. Electroplating bonding agent grinding tools have strong bonding force, high grinding efficiency, simple and convenient manufacturing process, but the diamond layer cannot be too thick. Generally used for manufacturing various small, thin, and other shaped grinding tools. Special tools such as grinding heads, oilstones, mixed files, inner circular cutting saw blades, and cutting knives.
