What are the differences between common epoxy flooring, concrete curing flooring, and emery aggregate wear-resistant flooring?
Flooring refers to the ground surface, or a ground surface that has been treated and processed to exhibit certain decorative and functional properties, such as wear resistance, anti-static properties, and slip resistance.
The market offers more than a dozen types of flooring treatments based on their intended use. Common types include epoxy flooring, concrete polishing, and abrasive-resistant flooring.
Less common types include polyurea, silicone PU, polyurethane, and fluorosilicone. Abrasive-resistant flooring, concrete polishing, and epoxy flooring are the three main types of industrial and commercial flooring. Sometimes, a combination of abrasive-resistant flooring and concrete polishing is also used.
1. Introduction
- Abrasive Aggregate Flooring: A high-wear-resistant surface is formed by spreading abrasive aggregate onto the concrete during its initial setting. This is a cement-based, physically enhanced flooring system. The aggregates are divided into metallic and non-metallic types.
- Concrete Densifier Flooring: This type of flooring involves the penetration of a concrete densifier into the concrete, causing a chemical reaction that generates calcium silicate crystals, enhancing hardness and sealing properties. This is a chemically penetrating flooring system. Inorganic silicates (such as lithium silicate, sodium silicate, and potassium silicate) are priced differently based on penetration depth and efflorescence issues.
- Epoxy Flooring: Composed of epoxy resin and a curing agent, this system forms a seamless, colored coating on the base surface and is an organic resin-based flooring system.
2. Feature Analysis
- 1. Carborundum (Silicon Carbide): Suitable for industrial areas requiring high wear resistance, such as warehouses, docks, and parking lots.
- 2. Concrete Hardener Flooring: Suitable for areas requiring high cleanliness and durability, such as underground parking garages and logistics centers.
- 3. Epoxy Flooring: Suitable for areas requiring high aesthetics and cleanliness, such as hospitals and electronics factories.
In terms of wear resistance, Carborundum ≥ Concrete Hardener > Epoxy, but Carborundum is prone to dusting.
In terms of hardness, Carborundum and concrete hardener flooring are similar. Sometimes Carborundum requires a hardening penetrant for reinforcement. Why not just use concrete hardener flooring directly instead of adding Carborundum?
The main reason is that using concrete hardener flooring alone may not achieve the physical strength of Carborundum flooring in some aspects, while using only Carborundum flooring makes it difficult to overcome its inherent physical defects (dusting). Combining the two achieves a superior "1+1 > 2" effect. Specifically, Carborundum is prone to dusting and has poor penetration resistance and weak chemical corrosion resistance, requiring a hardener for sealing and reinforcement. The initial wear resistance of the hardener is not as good as Carborundum.
Simple concrete hardener flooring may not provide the same rapid and strong wear protection layer as Carborundum flooring. While applying concrete hardener directly to concrete provides good sealing, dust resistance, high hardness, and durability, its initial wear resistance and impact resistance may be slightly insufficient in industrial environments facing extreme heavy loads and high-frequency physical impacts.
The "Carborundum + Hardener" combination scheme first establishes a strong physical wear-resistant layer through Carborundum, and then uses a hardener for chemical sealing and reinforcement. The two complement each other, jointly constructing a top-tier flooring system that possesses both ultra-high physical resistance and excellent sealing, dust resistance, and durability. In simple application scenarios, using either a hardener or Carborundum alone may be sufficient to meet wear resistance requirements.
