Diamond Foundry recently announced that the Spanish government has invested 753 million euros through the national technology investment agency SETT to support the company's further expansion in Spain.

Diamond Foundry is an American laboratory grown diamond brand founded by Martin Roscheisen, Jeremy Scholz, and Kyle Gazay in San Francisco in 2012. This brand relies on doctoral teams from universities such as MIT and Stanford University, and uses CVD semiconductor technology to cultivate diamonds through plasma reactors. In 2023, the world's first single crystal diamond wafer with a diameter of 100 millimeters and a weight of 110 carats was created.

It is reported that as early as 2023, Diamond Foundry announced plans to build a second wafer fab in Spain, with joint support of $850 million from the European Union and the Spanish government. In January of this year, Diamond Foundry's wafer fab in Spain began production.

The increase in investment this time is based on the operational experience of the previous "original drilling" wafer fab, further deploying reactor equipment for large-scale production, improving wafer output capacity and wafer processing related processes. According to Diamond Foundry, the single crystal diamond growth capacity will be located in a new building near DF's existing factory, while processes such as slicing, surface treatment, and clean room packaging will be arranged in Zaragoza.

It is understood that the PERTE chip program is a semiconductor industry revitalization project promoted by the Spanish government, aimed at enhancing the design and manufacturing capabilities of microelectronics and semiconductors, promoting EU technological autonomy. This 753 million euros is part of the PERTE chip program. The financial support for Spain's monocrystalline diamond wafer fabs not only promotes the progress of basic technology, but also promotes technological innovation in fields such as artificial intelligence chips and electric vehicles.
