On September 7, the Superhard Materials & Abrasives Industry College at Henan University of Technology (HUT) announced its 8th Superhard Materials and Products Training Course, to be held November 9–15, 2026 at the university in Zhengzhou, with registration on November 8. Known across China's superhard-materials sector as the "Whampoa Military Academy" of the industry, HUT is once again opening a seven-day intensive program that runs the full chain - from the fundamentals of diamond synthesis to cutting-edge diamond composites for thermal management.

1. Logistics at a glance
- Dates: November 9 (Mon) – November 15 (Sun), 2026, 7 days; full-day registration on November 8.
- Venue: Superhard Materials & Abrasives Industry College, Henan University of Technology, Zhengzhou.
- Fee: RMB 6,800 per person, covering tuition, course materials, expert fees, meals and the completion certificate. Early-bird price RMB 6,000 per person for registrations submitted before September 30. Accommodation is arranged by the college but paid individually.
2. Curriculum: 13 modules, from synthesis to applications
This edition brings together top Chinese experts and front-line industry practitioners. The curriculum spans fundamental theory, core technology, process optimization, application development and market judgment, organized into six modules:
| Module | Topics |
|---|---|
| Industry trends | Wang Qinsheng: Technological progress and development trends in superhard materials and products; Li Zhihong: Current economic and industry analysis. |
| Raw material synthesis | Li Yantao: Industrial diamond synthesis, micron-powder production, and lab-grown diamond technology (with hands-on practice); Ren Ying: CVD diamond synthesis. |
| Bonded products | Zuo Hongsen: Sintered diamond products; Han Ping: Resin-bonded tool manufacturing (formulation design + hands-on); Hou Yonggai: Ceramic-bonded tool formulation design; Bi Yu: Electroplated diamond products; Peng Jin: Coated superhard abrasives and their applications. |
| Formulation and surface engineering | Xu Sankui: Experimental design optimization and diamond surface modification. |
| Analysis and philosophy | Cui Wei: Instrumental analysis of hard-material abrasives and tools; Zou Wenjun: Development philosophy for superhard abrasives and tools. |
| Frontier applications | Zhao Xiaomiao: Diamond-based composites for thermal-management applications and research. |
Resin-bonded tool manufacturing is explicitly built around formulation design plus hands-on practice, and industrial diamond synthesis includes a practical session - both particularly valuable for production and formulation staff on the shop floor.
3. Faculty lineup
The teaching team is led by Wang Qinsheng, professor and founder of HUT's superhard-materials program. He serves as chief engineer of the Henan Engineering Research Center for Diamond and Products, chief expert of the National Torch Plan superhard-materials industry base, and director of the National Superhard Materials High-Tech Chain Expert Committee; a winner of the National S&T Progress Award (second class) and the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the PRC commemorative medal. The remaining instructors - Zuo Hongsen, Han Ping, Hou Yonggai, Xu Sankui, Bi Yu, Zou Wenjun, Peng Jin and others - are all long-serving professors and technical experts in China's superhard-materials and bonded-abrasive community.
4. Why this course is worth watching
Just last month, at the autumn national abrasives industry exchange conference in Yinchuan, "involution and divergence" was named the defining feature of the first half of 2026, with differentiated competition and quality/efficiency gains called out as the way forward. For diamond-tool and bonded-abrasive companies, escaping price competition ultimately comes down to depth in formulation and process - and a seven-day university-led program that packages laboratory methods with front-line formulation experience into one course is one of the few channels that delivers exactly that.
Two signals on the syllabus are also worth flagging. First, CVD diamond and diamond-based thermal-management composites are now formal modules, confirming that demand for superhard materials is extending beyond traditional cutting and grinding into electronic cooling. Second, experimental design optimization and instrumental analysis are listed as standalone topics - a direct response to the industry's push for more consistent quality and refined management.

Closing
Seven days of intensive training is not cheap, but for superhard-materials companies aiming to upgrade technically through the 15th Five-Year Plan cycle, it is one of the few investments that walks the entire value chain in a single sitting. The early-bird deadline is September 30; technical and production leads interested in attending should watch for the college's follow-up notice.
