The eighth Superhard Materials and Products Training Course at Henan University of Technology (HUT) will run from 9 to 15 November 2026, with full-day registration on 8 November. With the complete timetable now published, this year's syllabus tracks the industry's live technical questions - from industrial diamond synthesis and ceramic/resin bond formulations all the way to CVD diamond growth and diamond-based composites for thermal management.

1. Dates, venue and format
- Course dates: 9–15 November 2026 (Monday to Sunday), seven days;
- Registration: all day on 8 November (Sunday);
- Registration desk: Diamond Fashion Light Residence Hotel, opposite the west gate of HUT;
- Training venue: HUT Superhard Materials & Abrasives Industry School.
The programme keeps the school's "theory → process → hands-on" structure, with industrial diamond synthesis and grinding-wheel manufacturing as the core practical modules. Teaching is shared between the founding team of HUT's superhard materials programme and frontline industry experts.
2. The timetable: seven days, thirteen lecturers
| Date | Morning | Afternoon |
|---|---|---|
| Nov 9 | Wang Qinsheng | Li Yantao |
| Nov 10 | Li Yantao | Hou Yonggai |
| Nov 11 | Hou Yonggai, Zuo Hongsen | Zuo Hongsen |
| Nov 12 | Bi Yu | Bi Yu, Peng Jin |
| Nov 13 | Han Ping | Han Ping |
| Nov 14 | Zou Wenjun | Xu Sankui |
| Nov 15 | Ren Ying, Zhao Xiaomiao | Li Zhihong, closing ceremony |
Industry and market sessions: technical progress and industry trends (Wang Qinsheng); current economic trends and sector analysis (Li Zhihong); development philosophy of superhard abrasives (Zou Wenjun).
Synthesis technology: industrial diamond synthesis, micropowder production and lab-grown diamond technology (Li Yantao); CVD diamond growth (Ren Ying).
Product and process engineering: ceramic bond grinding wheel manufacturing and formulation design (Hou Yonggai); diamond sintered products (Zuo Hongsen); resin bond tool manufacturing with hands-on resin wheel practice (Han Ping); diamond electroplated products (Bi Yu); coated abrasives and their applications (Peng Jin).
Frontier applications and characterisation: diamond-based composites in thermal management (Zhao Xiaomiao); experimental optimisation methods and diamond surface modification (Xu Sankui); instrumentation and analysis for superhard materials and abrasives (Cui Wei).
Compared with previous editions, this year gives CVD diamond and thermal-management composites their own dedicated slots - a direct response to diamond's expansion from "industrial teeth" into AI-chip heat-spreading materials.
3. The teaching team
- Wang Qinsheng: founder of HUT's superhard materials programme; chief engineer of the Henan Diamond & Products Engineering Technology Research Centre; chief expert of the National Torch Programme superhard materials base; recipient of a National Science & Technology Progress Award (second class) and the PRC 70th Anniversary Medal;
- Li Zhihong: professor-level senior engineer, senior adviser to the Superhard Materials Branch of the China Machine Tool & Tool Builders' Association; lead editor of the sector's 10th–13th Five-Year development plans;
- Zou Wenjun: former dean of HUT's School of Materials Science; chairman of the National Coated Abrasives Expert Committee;
- Xu Sankui: deputy director of HUT's Engineering & Materials Division and dean of the Superhard Materials & Abrasives Industry School;
- Zuo Hongsen: one of the founders of the superhard materials programme, former head of the materials department;
- Hou Yonggai: former head of the grinding department, specialist in low-temperature ceramic bonds;
- Peng Jin: vice dean, coated and organic bonded abrasives;
- Li Yantao: head of the materials department, lead instructor of the national first-class course "Superhard Material Manufacturing";
- Cui Wei: director of the experimental and practice centre, process equipment and process control.
4. Who has signed up: 24 organisations
As of publication, registered organisations include Jiangsu Huachang Tool Manufacturing, Dongguan Huaguan New Materials, Ezhou Renyiju Metal Materials, Guangdong Dinghe New Materials, Jinshi Intelligent Robot, Qingdao Jingyuan Diamond, Foshan Huifuli Superhard Materials, Dongguan Derui New Materials, Henan Yujingyuan New Materials, Dongguan Huayixin Diamond Tool Technology, Hunan University of Technology and Business, Foshan Jiuqi Machinery Technology, Chongqing Chuanyi Automation, Cangzhou Shengguang Grinding Wheel, Guangdong Little Sun Abrasives, Zhengzhou Ruizuan Diamond Tools, Henan Sudu Metal Surface Treatment, Suzhou Yuandong Grinding Wheel, Guangdong Zhikai Diamond Tools, Foshan Hongruiyuan Technology, Zhuhai Juhai Technology, Pujiang Zhangcheng Industry & Trade, and Zhecheng Xinrui Diamond Tools.
The mix spans diamond tools, superhard materials, bonded and coated abrasives, equipment manufacturing and academia - with frontline technical leads from production plants sitting alongside material and machinery suppliers.
5. Fees and what else the week offers
- Course fee: RMB 6,800 per person, covering tuition, course materials, expert fees, meals and the certificate of completion;
- Accommodation: arranged at a designated hotel, payable by the participant;
- Repeat attendees: staff from companies that joined any of the first six editions keep a discounted rate of RMB 6,000.
During the week, companies can also apply for a company interview feature, a dedicated recruitment session, or display space for corporate boards and instruments - a low-cost visibility window in front of the industry's technical community.
Closing
Seven days can hold a timetable, but not everything happening in this industry. From ceramic bond formulation to CVD diamond thermal management, from synthesis to instrument analysis, the schedule itself reads like a technical map of the sector. For process engineers at superhard materials companies, what a week like this supplies is often exactly those boundary conditions that would otherwise take years of trial and error to pin down.
