Traditional diamond powder can be divided into two categories, polycrystalline diamond powder and single crystal diamond powder. With the rapid development of nanotechnology, a new type of diamond powder has been separated from the two original types of diamond powder: nanodiamond powder. Their respective main uses are listed below.
1. Polycrystalline diamond powder
Polycrystalline diamonds are synthesized under the action of strong transient shock waves formed by explosion. It is a micron and submicron-scale polycrystal composed of nanocrystals. Polycrystals not only have the hardness of super-hard materials, but also have the super-high strength and toughness of nanomaterials due to their isotropy, cleavage-free surface, impact resistance and high bending strength. Its dual advantages make up its unique physical performance and have important applications in high-tech industry and traditional pillar industry.
Purpose: It is mainly used in the fields of chip optical crystalultra-fine processing, large-scale silicon wafer ultra-fine polishing and surface modification. The spherical polycrystalline diamond powder has a grey-black appearance and a slight metallic gloss.
2. Single crystal diamond powder
The shape of single crystal diamond powder crystal is regular and complete hexahedron-octahedron, which has high strength, toughness, good thermal stability and strong impact resistance.
Uses: It is suitable for manufacturing plated products, grinding wheels and grinding wheels, and for polishing, engraving, automotive glass, high-grade furniture, ceramics, cemented carbide and magnetic materials of high-grade stone.
3. Nano diamond powder
Nano-diamond powder not only has intrinsic properties of diamond, but also has small-size effect, large specific surface area effect, quantum size effect and so on. Therefore, it shows the characteristics of nano-materials. The diamond synthesized in detonation wave has cubic structure with lattice constant of (0.3562+0.0003) nm, crystal density of 3.1 g/cm3 and specific surface area of 300 m2/g to 390 m2/g. After different chemical treatment, various functional groups can be formed on the surface of diamond, which has high adsorption capacity.
Other uses of nano-diamonds:
A. Prepare high-grade abrasive pastes and polishing fluids for ultra-fine processing of quartz, optical glass, semiconductors, alloys and metal surfaces.
B. Preparation of catalysts: nano-diamond and amorphous carbon have a large specific surface area, contain a wide range of surface functional groups and are highly active. The preparation of catalysts with them can improve the activity data to promote the interaction of organic compounds.
C. Preparation of nano-composite structure materials: By combining nano-diamond with nano-silica powder, nano-ceramics and various nano-metals, a new nano-structure material can be produced. Due to its unique properties, semiconductor devices, integrated circuit components and micro-computer parts can be manufactured.
With the maturity of diamond tool manufacturing industry and the rapid growth of Chinese economy, the market demand for diamond powder in China is also growing at a high speed.
Advances in tool manufacturing technology also put forward higher requirements for diamond powder industry upstream. Due to the characteristics of diamond micro-powder with different crystallization States and grain types, a few domestic manufacturers have been able to produce different types of diamond micro-powder according to the different uses of diamond micro-powder. For example: tool blades (PCD), resin bonded abrasives, metal bonded products, special diamond powder for abrasive paste, etc. It is an important step for China's diamond powder industry to upgrade and adjust product structure, develop to high-end specialization and catch up with world advanced level.
