In the preparation process of diamond welding tools, the brazing material powder, the type of coated diamond, and the brazing process parameters (including brazing temperature, holding time, brazing atmosphere, etc.) all have a significant impact on the diamond brazing performance.
1 Composition of brazing material
(1) The brazing material has a suitable melting point.
(2) The brazing material has good wetting and diffusion effects on diamond.
(3) The brazing material should have a stable and uniform composition to reduce segregation and loss of volatile elements during the brazing process.
(4) Has a certain strength, hardness, and coefficient of thermal expansion.
(5) To avoid significant residual stress at the cross-section between diamond and solder due to physical property mismatch.
2 Diamond Coating
Diamond coating refers to the process of depositing a layer of affinity metal on the surface of diamond, and establishing a strong chemical bond between the coating and diamond, reducing the surface energy of diamond, making it easy to infiltrate with metal binders, improving the weldability of diamond surface, and achieving metallurgical bonding between diamond and metal.
3 Brazing Process Parameters Plating
(1) The melting and filling of brazing materials, as well as the chemical metallurgical reaction between melted brazing materials and diamond surfaces, cannot be separated from the effects of temperature and holding time
(2) Brazing atmosphere
Due to the easy graphitization of diamond at high temperatures, the brazing process of diamond is generally carried out in vacuum or protective atmosphere. However, different brazing atmospheres have different effects on the brazing morphology, intermediate carbide formation, graphitization of diamond, and abrasive particle damage forms of diamond.
