overview
Brazing diamond technology was first proposed and researched by experts in the United States in the 1970s, and later developed by many experts and scholars in Switzerland, the United States, Germany, and China. It gradually matured as a new diamond tool manufacturing technology in the early 21st century. The basic principle of brazing diamond technology is to use brazing materials containing active elements (such as Ti, Cr.W, etc.), whose melting temperature is lower than the melting temperature of diamond and substrate. During the high-temperature brazing process, the active elements react chemically with the surface of diamond to form a layer of carbide. With the transitional effect of this layer of carbide, the liquid material is wetted, spread, capillary flows, filled, dissolved and diffused on the surface of diamond and substrate, realizing the three functions of diamond, brazing material, and substrate. A strong chemical metallurgical bond.
The high-temperature brazed diamond tools made using brazed diamond technology demonstrate unparalleled advantages in the following aspects.
- High bonding strength, firm grip on diamond abrasives, and no detachment during use.
- The wetting morphology of diamond abrasive is good, and after brazing, it forms a "cash shaped" tower shape, causing high exposure of diamond abrasive. At the same time, the shape between diamond abrasives presents a "concave" shape, with a large chip space, making it less likely to cause chip blockage and tool failure during use.
- Diamond abrasive itself has a high utilization rate, especially when diamond itself has micro crushing and self sharpening properties, the service life of the tool will be greatly improved, effectively saving resources.
- Its strong chemical metallurgical bond is suitable for high load and efficient grinding.
- During the production process of brazed diamond tools, there is very little exhaust gas, very little wastewater, and very little dust, which is completely green manufacturing and has obvious environmental advantages compared to other production methods.
Brazing diamond technology has attracted widespread attention from diamond tool manufacturing industries around the world. Since the 1990s, more and more units have been engaged in research, production, and development of brazing diamond technology in various countries. The technology in diamond brazing mechanism, brazing material production, firing method, tool structure design, and other aspects has become increasingly mature. The application of diamond brazing tools has expanded from the glass, stone, ceramic, and concrete processing industries in the past to silicon materials, sapphire, carbon fiber composite materials, plastics, refractory materials, cast iron and other processing industries, and its usage is increasing day by day. It is worth mentioning that diamond brazed diamond tools have unique advantages in difficult to machine materials such as titanium alloys, manganese steel alloys, and metal ceramics. But so far, the industrialization of brazed diamond technology has not been fully formed, and the production methods of brazed diamond tools still mostly remain in manual operation environments, with very (low) production efficiency, poor product grade consistency, and difficult quality assurance.
The brazing of diamond tools has become a specialized profession, and the industry is developing in a diverse manner. There are five consensus development trends that can be formed: automation, greenization, process compounding, high quality, and economy.
