Electroplated diamond tools
Electroplated diamond tools are a product which is electroplated and deposited on a metal substrate with a layer of diamond firmly. The products are characterized by high efficiency and grinding accuracy. The main products are forming grinding and precision machining tools. The products are also widely used in various fields such as geological exploration, stone, machinery, automotive and national defense industries.
Although various diamond tools produced by this method have been widely used in certain industries and gained certain economic benefits, the technology of consolidated diamond abrasive particles also has serious shortcomings. The effective utilization rate of diamond is about 20%. It is mainly manifested that the metal binder also has poor control over diamond abrasive grains, which are only embedded mechanically in the coated metal.
The plating method is that Ni or Ni-Co or Ni-Co-Mn plasma metal ions continuously precipitate, enter and bury on the cathode diamond and the base surface, and the next electrodeposit is deposited in turn. After repeated deposition to a certain thickness, semi-finished products are taken out of the plating solution for subsequent process such as sanding and thickening, and finally electroplated diamond tools are obtained. During the whole manufacturing process, no chemical-metallurgical reaction occurred with diamond. Therefore, this kind of tool also fixes the diamond abrasive only in the form of mechanical wrapping, and its holding power to the diamond is limited during use. Once the electrodeposit is worn to half the height of the abrasive, the diamond abrasive will fall off naturally.
Observing the usage of a large number of electroplated diamond tools, it is found that about 2/3 of the undisturbed diamond abrasive particles are deposited in the plated metal layer, so the chip space of the diamond abrasive particles is basically fixed and relatively small, so that the blockage of processing material debris and burns and scratches of the workpiece can still occur during the use process.
