How to choose resin polishing pad and metal polishing pad

Stone care is a technical activity, and in many cases it is necessary to rely on rich experience to choose products according to local conditions.

There are currently two types of leveling sheets (notch sheets) on the market: resin polishing pads and metal polishing pads.

 

1. Resin polishing pad

The resin polishing pad adopts the formula of "resin bond + abrasive", and there are large abrasive particles in it. CDT notches are resin polishing pads.

 

Advantage:

The price is cheaper than metal polishing pads, because of the fixed cushioning effect of resin, it is not easy to scratch the stone when grinding, and there will be no scratches that are difficult to repair, and it has low requirements for the subsequent grinding discs.

 

shortcoming:

Although the resin notch sheet has high sharpness, it is still inferior to the metal polishing pad in terms of grinding ability.

 

Moreover, the hardness of the resin is lower than that of stone after all. When encountering a large difference in height, it is easy to collide violently with the notch of the stone due to the high-speed operation of the machine and shatter.

2. Metal polishing pad

Metal polishing pads, using the "metal + abrasive" formula, the abrasive is cast into the metal base. CDT diamond leveling sheet (diamond grinding disc), CDT small flywheel, metal self-adhesive sheet, etc. are all metal polishing pads.

 

Advantage:

Sharp, very sharp, strong cutting ability, can easily level large differences in height.

 

shortcoming:

If the grinding is not careful, it is easy to leave scratches that are difficult to repair. High requirements are placed on the grinding discs for subsequent splicing.

 

3. Summary

Sharpness: metal leveling sheet>resin notch sheet

Optimization ability: resin notch > metal leveling

Price: metal leveling sheet > resin notch sheet

 

4. Choose

For general level difference, choose resin notch piece; for particularly serious level difference, such as exaggerated to 1cm, choose metal notch piece.

For soft marble and limestone, resin notch pieces are selected. The grinding ability of metal notch pieces is too strong, and it is easy to grind too much.

Resin notch can solve most of the natural stone notch problems, and you can choose metal notch for particularly hard stone.

It is recommended to use metal notches on terrazzo and cement floors, and it is not recommended to use resin notches.

 

5. Experience sharing

When the metal notch piece encounters relatively smooth granite, it is easy to slip and cannot be opened. At this time, you can use an angle grinder + grinding wheel to polish the smooth surface of the granite, and then use a metal polishing pad to make the cut.
